A person "...is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death." (1:15). "He (God) chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of first fruits of all he created... Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." (1:18, 22). "What good is it, my brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save him? ...faith by itself, if not accompanied by action, is dead." (2:14, 17; also see 2:18-26).
"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life...the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness." (3:13, 17-18). "Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you..." (4:7-8).
James is writing to people who had accepted the doctrine of Justification by Faith, but were not living right - such faith is no faith at all! Pray for the faith that makes us whole - complete in the Body of Christ.
