The Destroyer uses locusts to torture people who don't have God's seal on their forehead - Revelation 9:1-11. This brings up images of "the plague of locusts" in Exodus chapter 10, but these locusts don't eat vegetation (trees & grass). These locusts have a king, whereas Proverbs 30:27 says locusts have no king! These locusts "look like horses prepared for battle." So these locusts must not be ordinary locusts, but they may act somewhat like locusts.
They sting like scorpions. "During those days men will seek death, but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them." (9:6). It sure sounds scary! But Ezekiel 2:6 and Luke 10:19 say: do not be afraid.
Job suffered from painful sores, see Job 2:7. And Job said, "...Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?" (Job 2:10). Note Job chapter 3, especially verse 21. Psalm chapters 10 through 18 seem to parallel the thoughts in the fifth through seventh trumpets.
9:5 & 10 says the torture is to last five months. This is the only length of time indicated from 8:6 through 9:11. Whereas: 11:2 talks about 42 months; 11:3 - 1260 days; 12:6 - 1260 days; 12:14 - time, times and half a time; and, 13:5 - 42 months. If these times are literal, we need to determine how and where they fit...!
Is the book of Joel relevant here?
There maybe some connection here to Revelation 13:16-18. A preview perhaps?
